Guru is light! Guru is wisdom! Guru allows and teaches you to walk with confidence and vision. The Guru-Shishya tradition is a unique beauty of Indian culture. Ancient Indian knowledge is mostly passed on through this tradition. The science of Ayurveda is one of those ancient treasures having no of eminent teachers. Late Vd Bindumadhav Katti from Maharashtra was one of them.

Guruvarya Katti sir was a devoted follower of Ayurveda with strong will of spreading this knowledge among his students. He was known for using scientific skills of Rugna pariksha and unique methods of Rog Nidan.

He worked in Ayurveda faculty from 1956 to 2000 as a professor in almost all Government Ayurveda collages in Maharashtra.

He used to be a very strict teacher & eminent Vaidya. He was very enthusiastic & hard working person. He always insisted his students…the future Vaidyas to read & follow Shishyopanayaniya Adhyaya from Sushrut Samhita. He emphasized that Vaidyas must present themselves with all cleanliness, with proper uniform, along with all needed equipment’s. He also stressed the importance of presence of mind and devotion towards learning while treating patients.

He was always keen to shape his students as ‘Vaidya guna yukta Chikitsaka’. Pachan (Digestion) and Shodhan (Detoxification) chikitsa (treatment) were his key protocol while treating patients. Chitrak Haritaki Avaleha was his most recommended medicine for body detox. Srotas Pariksha(Systemic examination) and mala parikshana were important methods used by him. Due to this, he was recognised as ‘Malacharya’ or ‘Nidanacharya’.

Each moment of his life he lived as Vaidya, as a Drushtakarma vaidya. He was the chairman of ‘Akhil Bhartiya Ayurveda Parishad’ & advisor of Ayurveda Vyaspeeth. He traveled a lot for organizing health camps & public lectures in small villages of Maharashtra after his retirement. Serenity, fearlessness, sharp gaze with calm & comforting eyes, lustrous face and commanding speech was his persona.
